Ouch! My new shoes/sandals just gave me a major blister.

Pop it!  The blister will heal better is you drain it.  Sterilize a needle (by dipping it in rubbing alcohol or holding it by a flame) and use it to make a tiny puncture hole in the blister.  Let the liquid (it’s just water) drain out then cover with a band-aid.  Change the band-aid daily until the skin has healed.

How to Shorten A Sunburn:

  1. Take 2 aspirin – they inhibit the redness
  2. Take a cool shower or bath – will reduce the blood flow to your sin
  3. Slather the affected areas – with Aloe Vera Gel.  Avoid aloe products that contain alcohol which can dry skin & increase peeling.
  4. Always – apply sunscreen (and reapply, every 2 hours) when you’re in the sun.

Which do I put on my face first, sunscreen or moisturizer?

What you apply first depends on the kind of sunscreen you use. A physical block (containing titanium dioxide or zinc oxide) can be applied over your moisturizer. But a chemical sunscreen (avobenzone or oxybenzone), must penetrate whatever is already on your face in order to be effective.  So its smart to apply this type before anything else.

In summer, unless your skin is very dry, you can probably use just one product: a moisturizing sunscreen.

What is the one thing that women would be surprised to learn ages them?

Constant fluctuation of weight. What happens is the face gets thin and the layers of fat pads shrink. The skin hangs better if they’re plump. And if your weight yo-yo’s, after a while, your face says forget it – its less able to snap back after being stretched repeatedly.

Frown lines? You may not need Botox.

You will be amazed to know that people who have frown lines may need glasses or contacts.  When you start to have that vision change, the muscles that lead to facial expressions will compensate, which can lead to furrows and frown lines.  You may still need Botox or Dysport afterwards but at least you are handling the main cause of the problem.

The Most Common Suncare Mistake?

Not applying sunscreen everywhere you should. Make sure to dab it on all the way up to the lashline, cover the whole under-eye areas, not only to protect skin but to decrease dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles.  We also tend to miss the hairline and ears, leaving those areas vulnerable to skin cancer.

How Does Sugar Age You?

Processed and refined sugars play a pretty significant role in inflammation & advanced aging. The foods loaded with sugar bind to the proteins in the cell and to collagen in the skin. This makes it difficult for cells to function properly, resulting in destruction to all organ systems, including the skin!

Natural sugars are thought to not cause a quick spike in blood sugar although, like any sugar, can cause it to climb somewhat.
